Reflections of NoLita New York

Trip to NY 2009 / Hotel Rivington

Two and a bit days in Paris

2 days in Paris / filled with showings and catching cabs in-between (though I did walk the city two times over!) , there was little time for my usual Parisian adventures. I did have the plan to drop into my favourite stores in the hour or so I had free but it didn’t quite work out that way – showings that were scheduled for an hour extended into 2! I just had too much fun, goofing around, trying on all the samples, chatting about the parties attended the night before (Chanel, ah yes, Chanel – so jealous) to talking about the casting one of the girls went on – okay, eventually we did get to viewing the collections. I get this fuzzy feeling when a label is exactly what our style chameleon would wear. Coming next year will be 3 new NYC labels and a French label. To sum up the focus is knitwear in all its forms, Natural fibres and Outer wear in unique cuts. Stay tuned for more on these labels.

a bit in Paris / Not so funny at the time was missing my flight back to Zurich- yes you heard – not sure how that happened but I was forced to stay near the airport and still managed to sit down to one last Steak Tartare – yummy! (even though the night before I had Salmon Tartare with a ‘Demi-bouteille de vin’ aka half bottle of wine – learnt this in French class).

Paris in only 2 days – never again!

which door would you open?

Doors are one of the things that I feel enchanted by / I am not sure if it is the doors themselves or what I can imagine to be behind them. These were taken on my recent buying trip in Paris in October, all taken on Rue Jacob. Pay particular attention to the small details, the colour and texture – now which door would you open? 1,2 or 3

the gentlewoman /

Phoebe Philo of CelinePhoebe PhiloTall n' ShortLike leather the smell and feel of a good magazine somehow gets my attention. Last month during one of my expeditions to the local newsagent ( of a special kind ) I came across this beautiful fresh nude textured face with none other than Pheobe Philo (aka designer of Celine) on the cover with the title ‘the gentlewoman’ - a phrase, so special in an obvious yet uncontrived kind of way.

The Editor Penny Martin introduces the first issue, of this Netherland’s mag , perfectly – extract <The Gentlewoman welcomes you to a new decade of inspirational, international women: stylish, intrepid and often hilarious ones. Remarkable subjects: contemporaries (not celebrities) who are setting new agendas, solving new problems and forming new opinions………..Elegantly side-stepping the passive and cynical cool of recent decades, The Gentlewoman champions the optimism, sincerity and ingenuity…..these are upbeat and pragmatic qualities defining gentlewomen of today>

Sadly this only comes out biannaully …..x
